'The sixth European Conference on Engineering and Medicine took place in Belfast in May 2001 in the Europa Hotel. Over 400 delegates enjoyed not only the scientific quality of the 3 day conference, but also the convivial atmosphere of the city of Belfast, which was unknown to most of the conference attendees.

A highlight of the social events was a guided tour of the Chty Hall, a reception and speech by the Lord Mayor who expressed the wish that all delegates would take home a nice memory of the City. Several delegates stated that the City of Belfast was a pleasant surprise as a conference destination, and that it has a lot to offer due to the splended buildings and surroundings, and the nice pubs and restaurants.'
